Park Forest Sailor Serves Aboard Nimitz Carrier
Park Forest native Petty Officer 3rd Class David Ames, 22, serves on the USS Nimitz, a 95,000 ton carrier on station in the Western Pacific enforcing UN sanctions and deterring threats. The 1992 Rich East High School graduate assists personnel records and helps retiring sailors while the crew visits Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai during a demanding deployment. The Nimitz is set to return to Bremerton, Washington, this summer as crews rotate to meet global contingencies.

About 75 firefighters from Hazel Crest Homewood Flossmoor and Oak Forest join a monthly fitness program at South Suburban Hospital cardiovascular rehabilitation lab. They bike run and train with weights to meet NFPA standards and reduce injuries.

Forest Preserve hosts spring wildflower walk at Goodenow Grove
The Forest Preserve District of hae County sponsors a one hour spring wildflower walk on May 8 at 2 pm at Goodenow Grove Forest Preserve south of Crete. A district naturalist leads participants in spotting forest wildflowers with legends and folklore highlighted. The event is free for families and individuals. Youth groups should call the Environmental Learning Center at (708) 479-2255 to arrange attendance. Dress for weather and possible rain or mud. program may be canceled for hazardous conditions. Goodenow Grove is 1.25 miles east of Routes 1 and 394 on Goodenow Road. Office hours are 8 am to 4 pm weekdays at (815) 727-8700. TDD relay available at (800) 526-0844.
