Richton Park trustees discuss the Bohlman TIF intergovernmental agreement with School Districts 227 and 159 and the Richton Park Public Library District. The plan foregoes increased tax revenues for 22 years to redevelop a 34.5 acre site at Sauk Trail and Central Avenue. Funds will go to the village tax allocation fund to spur development and long term revenue for the districts. An ordinance to tap the fund balances, currently over $800000, for project area payments was also reviewed.
Park Forest officials approved a plan allowing police chief Robert Maeyama to retire and draw a $45,000 annual pension while remaining in command under a new title with a $67,000 salary. He will join the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, continuing his 29 years of service with 9 percent of salary directed to the pension. The arrangement, officials say, costs taxpayers nothing and reflects a legal practice cited by village leaders.
A Park Forest Indiana Elementary School class of third graders completes a three week interdisciplinary unit on rain forests. Under teacher Caron Espinosa the students produce reports, computer searches, a rainforest reading corner, a mural and a rainforest quilt. They plan to write letters to congressmen expressing concern over habitat loss and animal endangerment.
The Rich Township High School District 227 finance committee presented a basic budget formula for 1996 97. Assistant Superintendent Harold Huang said the board will likely adopt the preliminary budget in early August and the final budget in September. The plan maintains current enrollment levels and class sizes, with a 2.5 percent cap on property tax increases, and includes upgrades to facilities and technology across Rich Central Rich East and Rich South.
The Senate passed a bill allowing taxing districts near the Monee outlet mall to earn up to 12 million over 20 years, boosting Crete Monee School District 2010 by about 1.3 million annually. The plan includes tax abatements and an intergovernmental agreement with Monee and Monee Associates LLC.
