Friends mourn Mims death and call for safety reforms
Friends and family paid final respects to Michael Mims a Matteson cab driver shot in his taxi on April 9 at Gatlings Funeral Home. Two Chicago teens Tremayne Smith and Bilal Ingrame have been charged as adults with first degree murder and armed robbery. Community leaders urged cab companies to install bulletproof shields or alternative safety measures amid ongoing violence against drivers. About 200 attendees attended the service and burial at Restvale Cemetery as mourners sought safety assurances from city officials and cab firms.
