The Holy Rollers of West Doxburry Mass. miss the predicted end of the world on Saturday and urge friends in arrears to settle. The editor received a volume titled Cradle Davé of New York from Ralph J. Morris in Brooklyn, a gift appreciated and wished prosperity for Mr. Mergis.
On Sunday morning a quiet ceremony was held in the pastor’s study of Freemason Street Baptist Church. Miss Anna Sutton Douglas, daughter of Mr and Mrs C M Douglas, wed Roblin L Powell of Norfolk with Rev Henry B Melton officiating. The bride wore a traveling suit of Manhattan gray with matching hat and gloves. the groom in black. The couple left for Washington Luray Cave and National Bridge West Virginia after the ceremony.
The Virginia State Fair Association has a 5000 contract with Mr. Curtiss to fly over the fairgrounds daily during the October fair. A wireless telegraph feature and a wide display of farm products live stock races and amusement attractions are planned for Virginia's event promising record crowds and modern marvels.
Lemuel W Hudgins a well known local figure died at his home near Port Haywood on Saturday evening September 25. He was 70 and his death was attributed to old age. The funeral was held at the home Monday evening with Rev J R Laughton and Rev L J Phaup officiating. He was a Confederate veteran associated with Hodgins Hud- Part Company at Mathews County. He leaves a large family and a fine grave on the farm.
Having spent his life in this county he was well known here where he was esteemed and admired by all on account of his clean and honorable life. His disease means the loss of another of those old time gentlemen whose number is already diminished and whose places are not easily filled. A widow and eight children, four girls, and four boys, survive him.

They express duty to fund through collective effort if given encouragement of an extra one hundred dollars. Named signatories include J. R. A group of local Black taxpayers urge Mathews County Board of Supervisors to raise the public school levy to the limit of fifty cents, citing need for funds and county authority. Signatories include J. H. Hughes, J. C. Wormley, R. Smith, E. Carey, F. White, C. C. Scott, J. White, and others from Chapel Neck White's Neck Frankstown and surrounding areas.
A vintage patent medicine note touts Dr King’s New Life Pills as preventing appendicitis by stimulating the stomach liver and bowels. The advertisement claims the pills cure constipation biliousness chills malaria headache and indigestion and are sold for 5 cents at all druggists.
