In Roanoke Mrs S W Turner aged resident of Roanoke was found unconscious on the floor of her room at 503 Campbell Avenue by Mrs Petty who lived with her. She died at noon from a complication of diseases. In Winchester Col John J Riely of Clarke County was buried from Grace Episcopal Church Berryville the service led by Revs Wall and Willis. In Luray William Bashour Pattie son of Sheriff D M Pattie of Madison County died at about 34 from typhoid fever after many years with the State Highway Commission. In Roanoke robbers broke into watchhouses between Glasgow and Buena Vista stealing rifles. Policeman J Beard was shot in the stomach when he attempted arrest. his wound may prove fatal.
Fredericksburg Judge John T. Godrick appoints F. M. Aldridge as commissioner of revenue for four years starting January 1, 1910. Aldridge, longtime local political participant, serves on the City Democratic Committee and has worked at the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad offices for 18 years. In Lynchburg, Charles Gross recovered 3500 dollars from Long Pass Lumber Company after a wreck left him with a broken leg. Also in Lynchburg a habeas corpus case over a 5 year old child of W A Crist and wife, separated, ended with the child awarded to the paternal aunt near Lawyers, Campbell County. The mother, Leaksville, North Carolina, was not granted custody.
In Lynchburg near Montville, engineer G. Perry of Spacer North Carolina was seriously injured after his engine left the rails on Southern's fast mail to Atlanta. He is paralyzed from the shoulders down with head cuts and broad bruising, and his left finger was severed. Perry jumped from the locomotive as it left the track, though the train itself stayed on the rails after the emergency brake was applied.
Fredericksburg report notes L. G. Jones, owner of Jones Manufacturing and Buggy Works, built an automobile for personal use in his shops. It marks the first local auto and could spark a regional plant. Automobiles now frequent streets and surrounding highways.
Richmond painter Oscar L. Baughan, 25, fell from a Chesapeake and Ohio Railway viaduct at noon, landing on rocks in the river. doctors fear results may be fatal. In Fredericksburg, the Business Men's Association allocated $100 to the Good Roads Association to fund highway improvements in the area.
