In Wyoming a dinosaur lizard fossil is reported as the largest animal yet found with a skeleton of 314 feet and an estimated weight above 100000 pounds. Scientists note the creature far surpasses diplodocus megalosaurus and brontosaurus and await fuller measurements.
Rev Dr Richard T Wilson longtime Virginia Conference leader of the Southern Methodist Church died at his Dinwiddie County home after months of illness from heart failure. He served as presiding elder in multiple districts and held Knights Templar and Scottish Rite Mason titles. Survived by his widow five daughters and three sons.
James Baldick, shot and killed at Ocean View last June by the wife’s son-in-law, was a bigamist. A New York dispatch says Baldick is survived by a widow and several children living near Antwerp, Jefferson County, NY. Mrs. Baldick in Norfolk unaware of his death. Ross Baldick heads to Norfolk. Annie T. Baldick says she knew nothing of an earlier marriage.
William F. Randolph Jr of Clarke now with Bank of Richmond was hurled over a hurdle at the Clarke County horse and colt show. He struck his temple and lay unconscious, confined to a hospital in precarious condition. Other riders were also thrown with minor injuries.
At the Jamestown Exposition session of the American Osteopathic Association Dr. William Smith of the American Osteopathic School Kirksville Missouri argued to prove Albert T Patrick innocent through osteopathy. He advocates favorable legislation in twenty one states with fourteen successes last year. He seeks unmolested rights to practice in every state.
Albert B E Deuel proprietor of the Deuel Parcel Delivery and 13 year old Norfolk resident Hardin Vimer were injured when a runaway horse pulled their wagon. One boy will lose a leg and Deuel suffered a fractured bone as the horse bolted through a platterboard. The animal had killed a prior owner days earlier and could not be restrained by Deuel.
Richmond special reports Cyrus Graffin longtime recluse of Beverly Street died recently in his small Oregon Hill home. His sons Wirt Adam Graffin and Frank Graffin inherit a fortune of 65000 accumulated through frugality money lending and rare real estate speculation. The hermit of the hill kept his affairs private and was widowed for years.
Roxie Ferguson, a young woman, fired three shots at Mrs. James Ferguson inside a State Street home. Two bullets hit the victim, one in the elbow, one in the hip, as the intruder tried to break in. Ferguson is jailed after admitting the act. she says it stemmed from disputes over James Shoecraft’s affections, which Mrs. Ferguson denies obtaining.
Fredericksburg report notes Councilman H. B. Lane planted a banana plant in his yard. The tree bloomed and now bears several bunches. If cool weather stays away, he may harvest ripe bananas from his own growing tree.
In Fredericksburg a seven year old boy, Frank Berry, son of Scott Berry, was found crushed beneath a pile of heavy lumber. It is believed the timbers rolled onto him while he played on the lumber pile.
Edward Pullen, a brakeman on the James River division of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, was killed instantly when a live electric wire fell across a caboose as he attempted to board for a trip to Gladstone. Brakeman Dakin alerted others and cut the current. Pullen leaves a wife and one child. Quadruplets born to a Virginia couple. one child died shortly after birth.
James Gabriel Penn, a millionaire tobacco merchant and prominent Danville businessman, died at his home after a long illness at age sixty two. He led or held stock in Riverside Cotton Mills Dan River Power Morrotock Morville etc., served as Commercial Bank president and Randolph Macon trustee, helped build Main Street Methodist Church and hospital, supported the Danville orphanage. He founded Pemberton Penn and R P Taylor firms with wide Carolina interests.
Two bakers, George King and George Blakey, were rescued unconscious from a blaze that destroyed the bath rooms and shop of William F. Drinkard on North Sixth Street. Firemen carried them to safety through a front window as flames raged upstairs. Both men were revived after a period of unconsciousness.
In Lynchburg Miss Viola Petty wed Clyde Martin at a bride’s aunt home with Rev. Dr. G C Kelly officiating. Also in Lynchburg Julian Garvin and Pearl Ailmond wed at the First Christian parsonage with maid Little Boskie and best man Edward Garvin. In Winchester Miss Hattie Snapp left for a visit and married Har ry Huff in Hagerstown, after joining in Inwood.
Mrs Bettie Geil nee Beery of Green Mount dies at Sparkling Springs aged twenty four widow of John Geil a noted county minister surviving a son Staunton. Charles Summerville Roller dies at Augusta Military Academy Fort Defiance aged sixty eight veteran of Confederate war and founder of the academy later headed the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind survived by wife three sons and a daughter.
A Japanese minister in Peking presents a plan to the Bureau of Foreign Affairs seeking a ten year tramway monopoly later opened to China. The text also notes tobacco consumption by country and mentions a Belgian rabbit plague scare in Argentina, recalling Australia’s prior issue.
The text argues for a tax on the income American women bring to Europe after marrying foreign nobles. It laments the outflow of fortunes earned by American industry and brains and complains that money transfers to idle noblemen abroad deprive the United States of wealth and potential domestic benefits.
