Fowler of Baltimore a 32 year old married lineman for the Richmond and Chesapeake Bay Railway a Gould interest line in Virginia was fatally shocked while stringing wires the body entangled in live lines and suspended before dropping to ground near the brick road Fowler a prominent Odd Fellow.
Hugh Gordon Miller of the New York State James town Commission and vice president of the Robert Fulton Memorial Association sues the Norfolk and Portsmouth Traction Company in federal court for 25000 dollars claiming insult and assault by a conductor and intoxicated motorman on a car he rode, alleging he was beaten by the conductor and the servant of the company.
In Elizabeth City County Circuit Court Judge J W G Blackstone denied Julian Pavlinic a new trial in the wife murder case. Pavlinic, sentenced to ten years, argued insanity as his defense and criticized the judge's bench conduct. The case advances to the Court of Appeals with insanity the sole defense.
The 2 cent passenger rate in Virginia increases local travel on the Virginia and Southwestern Railway. The line, which charged 4 cents per mile before, may add an extra coach on the Virginia division. The change applies only to intra state tickets, not interstate coupon tickets.
Grover Beamer of Patrick County was found guilty in Federal Court here of taking part in a conspiracy that led to the murder of Ann Hall. He received a seven year penitentiary sentence as four others allegedly involved await trial, with court officials summoning further proceedings.
Norfolk special report says James M Barr refused to withdraw his resignation as director general of the Jamestown Exposition after a meeting with state and naval officials. He asserts resources were exhausted and urges relief immediately, noting the project could conclude if discord ends and signaling possible unofficial service. Resignations follow from concessions chief Wakefield and H E Sherwood, with Bolles and Dixon also ready to quit. Barr’s stance leaves management in chaos and unclear outcomes.
A tele phone message from Rich Path Mines reports the body of an unidentified man about 36 found Sunday beside an unused mountain path far from the main road. The nude body wore only a shirt with no identifying items. Authorities theorize murder or death in a nearby house later moved to the mountains for burial cost reasons.
Suffolk Special: Eugene Pollard, a black burglar, was captured near Beaman after a six mile chase by bloodhounds. He had burglarized the Rad ford home at Magnolia around 1 o'clock then entered George Holland's residence. Pollard confessed. two watches and $12 were recovered.
Walter Holliday long time resident died at his daughter's home after a two week illness in Fredericksburg at age 67. Mrs. John H. Swift of Spottsylvania County, mother of Commonwealth's Attorney G. R. Swift, died at her Granite Springs area home after a lingering illness at an advanced age.
Richmond special reports that starting 12.01 PM Monday new passenger rates will be 2 cents per mile on ten railroads and 21⁄2 to 3 cents on others. The State corporation commission ordered a 2 cent rate for Norfolk and Western, Chesapeake and Ohio, Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Air Line, Southern Railway, Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac, Washington Southern, New York Philadelphia and Norfolk, Virginia and Southwestern, and Louisville and Nashville Railways, subject to possible U.S. Supreme Court action.
Norfolk special report on Thomas Archer held for the grand jury after a preliminary hearing before Mayor Reed. Detectives testified about hair strands found on Archer’s coat lapel and shoe matches linking him to the crime scene. No conclusive new evidence. bail denied.
Richmond special reports Mamie Richardson identified by Aubrey and W C Richardson brothers, and William P Wright, her fiancé designating the body recovered from the James River rocks. Wright had been with Mamie during a late night buggy ride across the Rivanna River when the buggy overturned in high water.
Charlottesville announces the marriage of M. D. McBride of Houma Louisiana to Nellie Cleveland Watson at the bride’s home with Rev. Dr. George L. Petrie officiating. Leesburg notes the wedding of Bessie L. Downs to James N. Moore at the bride’s home by Rev. S. V. Hildebrand. Danville reports Hattie Blair and W. E. Thomas wed in Pelham while guests plan a Jamestown Exposition honeymoon.
