The steam tug Virginia owned by O F Smith of Norfolk burned to the water's edge near Campostella bridge in the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River at 3 AM presumably from spontaneous combustion. Only hail of
Rev. John Whiteworth, a Methodist minister in Roanoke, and his wife, Fannie Aler of Franklin County, divorced years earlier. After a custody dispute during his Franklin Court testimony, a reconciliation was reached, and the couple remarried in Roanoke with their two young daughters present.
Virginia State Librarian John Kennedy announces 100 portraits and about 1,000 historical documents from the library will be exhibited in the Historic Arts building at the Jamestown Exposition. The fireproof mahogany cases with glass doors secure the $81,000 collection, guarded by expert caretakers and guards during the exposition. Additional exhibits include representation from states such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, New York, Ohio, Vermont, New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania, plus DAR and Colonial Dames displays.

Maj Holmes Conrad special counsel for the United States government is recovering at home after a fall on a hill during a cross country walk five miles from Winchester. He dislocated his right shoulder, sustained cuts and bruises, and was brought home by Rev J H Lacey after physicians reset the arm.
Crowds attempted to lynch Joe Mirenheimer after he shot and killed landlady Flora Walker and wounded her mother Martha Drewry while intoxicated. He was captured in a Candlers Mountain brick yard with a head wound from his own pistol and taken to a hospital. Coroner's jury ruled Mrs Walker died from a pistol wound inflicted by Mirenheimer. Officers struggled to restrain vigilantes.
Pristol special reports Rev. T. Russell rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, once a Canadian civil engineer, has completed a map of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia covering nearly half the state. The map, to be published, marks sites of colonial churches including the first church in America at Jamestown.
Miss Helen Smith of Urbana and F W Claybrook of Kilmarnock wed at the bride’s home and plan to reside in Baltimore. Miss Janie Gray Hall and George Beane wed at the bride’s home with plans to reside at Dickinson. Miss Mary Blakemore and Dr Chowing wed at the Otoman Baptist Church and depart for Florida. In Lovingston a private home wedding united Blanche Stevens and Dr George Pinkard Hamner with close family in attendance.
Remains of Clyde B. Ray, who died in Savannah Ga from consumption contracted during U S Army service, were brought to Winchester for burial. He recently received an honorable discharge from military duty.
