The body of W. Belford, ex manager of the Hampton and Phoebus Gas Company, was found beside an open gas hose in the Hampton storeroom. He died after being moved to the yard as workers arrived. Belford, despondent over receivership, left a note blaming drink for his troubles. Roanoke special reports the Tidewater Railroad tunnel at Merrimack Mines west of Roanoke was completed Friday. The tunnel runs over a mile and was bored through solid rock showcasing significant railroad engineering progress.
A group of Williamsburg businessmen met in the Peninsula Bank Building to organize a local board of trade. E. W. Warburton was named president, B. L. Peachy vice president, and F. H. Hall treasurer, with further steps planned.
