Seismographs across the United States and Europe record one of the longest and strongest shocks, as many Americans face peril in Mexico City where brilliant electric flashes precede the quake.
A strong earthquake lasting four minutes, starting 11:34 P M Mexican time, hit 24 000 square miles from San Luis Potosi to Vera Cruz. Chilpancingo and Chilapa were destroyed with 11 dead and 27 wounded. city walls cracked in Mexico City with no fatalities reported. Previous quakes cited include 1802 Chilpancingo deaths and 1905 Tamazula deaths.
Reports from Chilpancingo Mexico describe a severe earthquake that has devastated the city, killing at least 11 and wounding 27, with the telegraph office, postal staff, and the bishop’s palace potentially affected. Chilapa nearby also reported destruction as panic spreads and communication ceases.
Charles H. Webster testified in a Chicago court that he never kissed his wife Eva and gave no letters or meetings after their marriage, which led to a dissolution. Judge McEwen pressed for reasons behind the union and money, while Webster admitted he simply wanted to marry. He later left Chicago after the marriage.

Police in Chicago testify to a campaign fund in the mayoralty race. News covers suicides, wrecks, fires, court actions, and political moves across the United States including Newark, Hackensack, Milwaukee, and New York.
The reign reports missionaries urge Americans to raise 3 million dollars for relief of starving Chinese, thousands dying daily, with parents selling infants to eat. Other items note Stewart resigning as Bermuda governor, Amapala’s surrender ending Central American war, and Grace Redpath bequeathing 150000 to McGill University.
The National Arbitration and Peace Congress opened in Carnegie Hall before a cosmopolitan audience. Delays kept Andrew Carnegie and several delegates from the stage, while the Oratorio Society led a large crowd in a hymn for peace. Notables present included Rabbi Emil G. Hirsch, Bishop Henry C. Strawberries and vegetables in the Wilmington trucking belt suffered potential damage from two nights of cold. The minimum Sunday temperature was four degrees above freezing, with forecasts of deeper frost from the weather bureau. Snow was reported within 40 miles of Wilmington.
Thomas M. Fields, an attorney, was among prisoners sent from the city to the Moundsville Penitentiary in West Virginia. Ann Hall, 60, was killed in a cottage near Charity after a mob shot through a window. Jane Hall was wounded. A wave of crime and fires unsettles Portsmouth and nearby areas with assaults and robberies. A Justice of the Peace, J C Apperson, was attacked and robbed at Pinners Point. A Port Norfolk man died in Mojave, California, from a locomotive bottle explosion. George L. Andrews pleaded guilty to defrauding the US in currency manipulation and was sentenced to five years in Atlanta and fined $500. The American Funeral Benefits Association met in Lynchburg with officers elected and biennial meetings planned. Gen Lawrence Simmons Baker, a Civil War veteran and former Confederate general, died in Suffolk after a long career. Also noted are a serious head injury to a Newport News child and preparations for a Confederate statue ceremony in Norfolk.
