Between Stark and Summit A Feud on a County Line

Canton dispatch reports a border feud between Stark and Summit counties over where a shooting case will be tried. William Lahr alleges William Dickerhoff from Summit fired at him with intent to kill on Tuesday. the pair were in Stark and Summit jails respectively. Douglass Iden Hurt After Streetcar Fall

Douglass Iden head miller at Wick & Justus mills was seriously injured when he fell from a streetcar on East Main Street at Center Street. He suffered scalp wounds and a severe brain concussion though the skull remained unfractured. He was taken to Hotel Conrad then to his Center Street home and will miss several days at work.

Death Comes At Last Miss Bertha Seaman Dies In Massillon

Miss Bertha E. Seaman, 31, Massillon public school teacher and daughter of Mr and Mrs T Harvey Seaman, died after nearly a year of illness including typhoid fever paralysis and meningitis. Funeral at 2 pm Sunday at 51 Park Street. She taught in the B Grammar grade at West Tremont Street School and was a former Massillon High School graduate. She leaves two brothers, F H Seaman of Massillon and Willard Seaman of Cleveland.

Victims of sharpers swindle Stark County farmers near McDonaldsville

Report says several farmers near McDonaldsville were swindled by clothing vendors in an old con. Each victim purchased about 50 dollars of clothes, was sent 150 dollars to select from, and signed a note for 950 later increased to 500. The clothing man had been in the area for days, with another victim east of Massillon.

Tragic drowning of three year old Veral Wagner

Veral Wagner, age three, son of Mr and Mrs Frederick Wagner of 226 Akron Street, drowned in a cess pool in a neighboring yard between eleven and twelve Saturday morning. He had been missing for an hour before the corpse was found after the earth beneath one side gave way and the pool collapsed. Funeral scheduled for Monday.

General Calixto Garcia Returns to Santiago in Welcome

General Calixto Garcia visits Santiago de Cuba for the first time since July 17. General Wood and General Lawton with staff escort him into the city as crowds cheer. Patients Sent to Depot After Detected Delay at Camp Meade

Twenty four patients were moved from Red Cross hospitals to Camp Meade station to board a Reading-bound train but learned three hours would pass before departure. After a long wait the sick were returned to hospital and fear of exposure grows. General Graham is expected to order an investigation to fix responsibility for the blunder.

Ninth Member Added to War Department Inquiry

The Washington inquiry into the War Department's conduct in the Spanish War held its first meeting in the President's office. Eight members were present: General Grenville Dodge and others, with General McCook retired, and Urban Woodbury joining. Secretary Alger requested an investigation, and the President urged full cooperation and a clear field for the commissioners. The body adjourned to 10 o'clock Monday.

Dr Phineas Connor joins war department inquiry panel

Cincremati Sept 24 Dr Phineas Sanborn Connor of this city has accepted President McKinley’s invitation to serve as a member of the commission to investigate the War Department’s conduct during the Spanish American War. He will be the ninth member and previously served as Civil War assistant surgeon and was brevetted major for distinguished services.

Captain Brooks of the Chiapa is murdered by two bay pirates after they boarded near San Salero Cal. Brooks dies in a struggle while companions are wounded and the attackers escape. Nearby towns report yellow fever cases and movements of peace commissioners. Alger visits Anniston.

The Campania carrying the United States commission arrived at Queenstown on Sept 17 after a Atlantic voyage from New York.
