Ira Cowan a veteran railwayman of the W L E has served as brakeman fireman and engineer for about forty years. Beginning 1864 on the Atlantic and Great Western he later joined the W L E and has not had a wreck or costly accident in twenty years. He runs engine No 59 between Massillon and Wheeling daily at 4 05 AM and is famed for reliability and punctuality. A Civil War veteran born September 22 1843 he survived a Bolivar wreck and two marriages. Now living in Massillon he remains a well known and trusted figure on the line.
