McKinley Body Lying In State in Canton Rotunda
Canton Ohio September 18 body of President McKinley lies in state at the county courthouse rotunda to allow citizens to pay tribute. After 9 pm it will be moved to the family home on North Market street escorted by the G A R from the Twenty third Ohio. Funeral rites will be held at the First Methodist church with Rev Manchester and Rev Milligan presiding and a receiving vault to guard the coffin until burial.

Washington mourned as funeral services for William McKinley were held in the Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony featured Bishop Andrews’s sermon, a Nearer My God to Thee chorus, and a vast crowd viewing the casket despite rain. The final chapter of the McKinley funeral procession began as the train left Washington at 8:20 PM. The casket rode in the observation car, draped with national colors, with more than 20 cars forming the funeral party to Canton. The procession included President Roosevelt, Abner McKinley, Mrs McKinley’s party, and vast military and naval contingents, while crowds along the route watched in mourning from Baltimore to Pittsburgh.
