Reports from Sept 12 describe extensive storm destruction along the New Jersey coast. Ocean City suffered major washouts and hotel damage while the boardwalk and sea wall were breached. Delaware and Lewes sections report wrecked ships, downed wires, and many vessels lost or stranded.
Wilson H Sherman, known for Erin shortage fame, allegedly tired of exile in Canada and willing to surrender. Wanted on forgery charges, he was found hiding near Hamilton Ontario. The assistant district attorney traveled to Canada Tuesday. Sherman was arrested in Toronto yesterday afternoon and remanded until the 19th for trial in Judge McDougall’s Toronto chambers.
Rain dampens ceremonies as Governor Beaver reviews troops and old soldiers gather at Gettysburg. Pennsylvania monuments are dedicated including Fifty-seventh and Ninety-sixth regiments while the One Hundred and Forty-ninth regiment is honored. Survivors meet photographers, and Battery B of the First Pennsylvania reserves dedicates East Cemetery Hill monument. crowd estimated around 30,000 with 6,000 more expected.
The death of Samuel Sullivan Cox is reported with details of his illness from peritonitis and a long public career. Born September 30, 1824 in Zanesville Ohio, Cox studied law, led the Statesman at Plumbub, and held multiple congressional terms. He served as speaker pro tem of the house in 1876 and was a prominent Democrat with a long record in national politics.

At Cheyenne on September 11 the statehood convention endorsed the Federal constitution, presenting propositions to fix salaries for state officers, dedicate all fees to the treasury, and make expenditure to secure preferment a felony. The plank disfranchising a word was reported unfavorably, two thirds of delegates favor universal female suffrage, and the lower house is to have thirty one members.

Gen Rosecrans would leave post and Commissioner Tanner moved. ex Congress Charles Foster denied involvement in the matter. Gen Brown considered for pension bureau head. Ives trial on stock certificate fraud opened in New York with 100 jurors summoned.
A gruesome Whitechapel murder noted at 3:00 in a railway arch near Cable Street. The body was headless with a torn chemise, the killer possibly abducting parts. police cordoned the area but made no arrests. Medical examiners cite surgical skill, two days since death, and suggest two separate killer groups beyond the Ripper.
A Saturday disturbance caused by rushing water into a rock crevice undermined the mill foundation. The structure sustained severe damage and must be almost entirely rebuilt at an estimated cost of $500.00.
