West Union Ohio October 24 Z Lew is the former Urbana banker and noted bond forger died in this county last night. Lewis shocked the financial world in 1895 when forged bonds were exposed. Banks purchased forged bonds from him and loaned money, taking forged bonds as collateral. Lewis escaped but was captured in Detroit. The total forgeries amounted to more than $100000. He was convicted and pardoned when it became clear he could not live long due to lung trouble.
