Washington report by Surgeon General R M O Reilly to Taft details 79586 sick admissions and 406 deaths in the past year with 1377 discharged for disability. The data indicate overall health gains and note immorality‑related causes at sixteen percent, urging civil authorities to lead controls. pneumonia led deaths followed by tuberculosis.

Gottfried Kemp was instantly killed and his son Edward seriously injured when a rock mass fell from the roof at the Newman Creek coal mine two miles northwest of the city near Boyd's Corners on Saturday afternoon. Fellow workers freed the son and recovered the father’s belt. Dr. Williamson treated Edward. a speedy recovery is expected. The elder Kemp’s body was taken to his North Mill street home. A widow and several children survive. The coroner will be summoned for an inquest likely Sunday.
Nine year old Alice Ingerick and Willis and Fred Olney were murdered last night in Middletown. Mrs Ingerick, the mother and housekeeper, was beaten into unconsciousness and remains in critical condition. Olneys’ bodies were found in nearby woods. tracks suggest the killings occurred elsewhere before movement to the woods.
Anton Gallo, a North Erie Street fruit dealer known as Tony, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Zaiser on a perjury charge. Indicted by a grand jury, his bond set at 1000 dollars was posted. He had filed for voluntary bankruptcy after failing to pay Eastern fruit creditors, and continued trading locally while under scrutiny.
