The Gazette reports a sweeping Republican win in Allegheny County with J Lee Plummer taking the state treasurer post and the entire local ticket winning by 5 000 to 8 000 margins. Citizens expected larger majorities in Pittsburgh and McKeesport, while fusion candidates were beaten and officials conceded defeat at midnight.

Midshipman Branch dies from injuries after a 25 round bout with classmate Midshipman Merriweather at Annapolis. Branch, 2nd class, reportedly attacked by Merriweather over a disciplinary report. Surgeons treated him in hospital but he died at 10 PM with both parents present. Civil manslaughter inquiry discussed.
