Women Mission Societies Favor Separate Work Not Union
The Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church in Cleveland on November 1 decided it is best for the two groups to work separately. They pledged funds to Indian missionaries responding to a landslide disaster after urgent cables. A report on the Herkimer training school for women missionaries and church workers was presented, with talks on missions in China, India, Korea and Japan and plans for a twentieth century missionary bank offering of $200,000.

Fatal Fire at Webster House Hotel on St James Street
A fatal blaze at the Webster House hotel in MoxtTRRAL killed Joseph E. Wilson bailiff from Sherbrooke and John Benbow of Ottawa as well as Mrs. McCoon a hotel employee. Captain J K Oswald of Montreal a broker jumped from a window and fractured his skull. The fire started behind a sideboard in the dining room and spread quickly. Wilson and Benbow died during rescue efforts, McCoon was found suffocated, about 40 guests escaped in nightclothes. The house lacked fire escapes as required by law. Loss estimated at 40000 with 19000 insured.
