Bushnell nomination marks Foraker win in Ohio GOP
In Zanesville Ohio on May 24 the Republican state convention nominated General Asa S Bushnell for governor after a close six ballot race. Foraker supporters rallied as ex Governor Foraker and Senator Sherman pressed policy on bimetallic money and tariff, while McKinley and Foraker rivalry dominated the session. The convention praised McKinley and Foraker, backed silver and gold coin parity, and pledged statewide unity for 1896 with McKinley as presidential candidate.
