At Cleveland on May 20, Dr Homer Eaton was re elected senior book agent in Cincinnati and fourth ballot elected Dr Mains as junior New York agent while Dr Jennings won Cincinnati post. The general conference broke a bishops deadlock, electing Dr Charles C McCabe of New York over Dr Earl Cranston after long balloting with Ohio natives prominent on the board.
In Detroit on May 20 the Amalgamated Association of Tron and Steel Workers of America opened its annual convention with 175 delegates, led by President Garland of Pittsburg. Reports of officers will be reviewed today and the wage committee will report tomorrow. The body directly represents 50,000 workers, while 500,000 iron trades employees fall under its decisions. 45 lodges enrolled this year, largest since the Homestead troubles.
A notice posted at Nanmkeay cotton mill 3 announces the mill will shut down after June for an indefinite period. Four hundred spinners and weavers will be thrown out of employment.
