Regional fruit reports note a big cherry crop this year with peaches failing in some sections and a small plum crop. Frosts early May damaged fruit but wheat looks strong, apples may escape issues, and cherry blooms suggest good yield if survived. Practical spraying directions include Bordeaux mixture, sulphur lime wash, and kerosene emulsion with cautions on timing and safety.
The cream will stand for a long time without free oil rising to the surface. Use one gallon of the emulsion to fifteen gallons of water in spraying unless otherwise stated. It is a remedy for all leaf sucking insects woolly aphis and cabbage aphis.
Canal Dover May 11 at 10:30 PM a fire broke out in the basement of Philip Deis's building. The structure, housing the Syndicate store with $20,000 stock and an armory for Company L. O. N. G., was nearly wrecked. Will Garver, syndicate proprietor, entered to save papers and was overcome by smoke but revived after medical aid.
Jacob Snyder, about 55, a tailor from Orrville, fell from the Pennsylvania bridge near West Main Street Thursday night. He spent the night near the abutment, was found freezing at daybreak, rescued by Captain Getz, and taken to jail in Massillon. He later recovered but could not speak at first. he had been seen in Massillon and had been drinking. He travels for work and has no home. His identity was confirmed by officers after an Independent reporter located him.
Stark County grand jury reported in common pleas court Friday noon. They examined one hundred sixty-one witnesses since last Monday and returned forty-five bills after investigating fifty-eight complaints. Indictments included thirty-three against former state bank officials for embezzlement and related offenses, plus cases of murder, burglary, grand larceny, highway robbery, and illegal liquor selling.
A dispatch from Acting Governor Cinco reports Palijanes with five rifles entered Inabangan, killing one and wounding seven, burning and robbing 36 houses, and taking over 20 residents as prisoners. Troops constabulary policemen and volunteers pursue the band. Meanwhile notices promote Green Seal Shield Paint and Hollister's Tea products.
The national convention of the Iron, Steel and Tinworkers' Association adjourned after agreeing to demand a wage scale across the industry. Only the puddling department scale was settled, increasing the card base from 18 to 12, yielding a twenty five cent daily raise for the lowest paid puddlers and corresponding boosts for all in the puddling branch.
Harry White of Alliance, 17, confessed to Chief Ertle that he and two companions killed Thomas Dye near Orrville last month. He named A Miller and Willam Everhart as others involved, saying the shot was accidental and they fled after hiding Dye’s body. White was arrested at Massillon station by PRR Detective Sidell and later taken to Orrville with Marshal Crushall for arraignment.
In Nashville on May 12 the first Tennessee primary election allows Democratic voters to choose a U.S. senator to succeed BE W Carmack. The contest features Carmack’s successor race with ex-Governor Robert L Taylor opposing him.
Washington May 12 The Senate committee on interoceanic canals is deadlocked on the canal type to recommend with five favoring sea level and five favoring lock type. The session stalled as the split persists. The notice also advertises Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea and a Molly Jane Reed recital on May 17.
Mrs Maud Miller Deweese aged 36 wife of H G Deweese of Columbus died at her home Saturday after an appendicitis operation. Funeral Monday from her family home West Main street. Survived by four sisters Flora Minnie Daisy Miller and Mrs Clara Earr and brother Frank Miller. Jacob Zintsmaster aged 85 a Bethlehem township resident died Friday at Navarre. Funeral Monday 9am from his home and 10am at Evangelical church Navarre. burial Union Cemetery Navarre.
Birmingham May 12 Associated Press reports the Methodist Episcopal Church South committee on Episcopacy recommends electing three new bishops. It also favors preserving Granberry and Fitzgerald on the superannuated list and granting Bishop A Coke Smith a year’s exemption due to ill health. Active bishops’ salaries are set at 4000 dollars, superannuated at 2000, and widows at 1000.
Washington May 12 News of another revolutionary movement against President Carceres of San Domingo reaches Washington with Puerto Rico as its base. Instructions have been sent to the Puerto Rico governor to stop any warlike expedition from departing.

In Chattanooga on May 12, a watchman shot and killed Jack Richardson of Danville Kentucky and fatally wounded Herb Cornielson of Lexington Kentucky in a loaded merchandise car at Queen & Crescent yards. The pair, both railroad workers, were spotted by the watchman who believed they were robbing the car.
Democratic Senators Bailey and Tillman dominate the chamber with sharp exchanges. Bailey denounces Roosevelt over railroad rate and tariff policies, calling him common clay while Tillman reveals a White House conference plan to rally Democratic support for the Hepburn bill against Republicans.
Isaiah B. Shilling of Canton dies at 71 from grip at 522 West Fourth Street. He was senior of Shilling and Son undertakers in Canton and father to T. F Shilling A. C Shing and Mrs A F Brinker.
