Fire broke out in the Belle Clothing house basement at State and Quincy streets. Albany March 27 Governor Morton signed a bill authorizing the New York board of health to employ a corps of physicians to collect and administer anti-toxine in public health efforts.
From New York, March 27. Collector Kilbreth receives report of alleged quarantine law violation by Secretary of the Treasury John G. Carlisle but withholds contents. The dispute centers on Carlisle aiding his son William K. Carlisle who arrived aboard the American Hue in port after a month abroad. Details contested as health officials inspect passengers.
In Wartrrford Ireland on March 27 a Clonmel court heard ten defendants including a husband and father charged with murdering Mrs Cleary who was believed to be a witch. They allegedly forced a herbal concoction on her, burned her over a fire, and later buried her charred remains after claiming she would disappear. The group narrowly escaped lynching.
United States citizens win a judgment of about 145500 from Venezuela after months of deliberation by the Venezuelan claims committee. The claims stem from 1571 when three vessels of an American corporation were seized during a Venezuelan revolution and damaged in war.
