Two 12 year old boys, William Shanks and Alonzo Steiner, were arrested after using stolen tickets on No 2 C L W railroad. They confessed to stealing twelve tickets from the Tuscarawas depot and were locked up as Superintendent Towns send took charge, with the New Philadelphia marshal summoned.
The Ohio National Guard seeks three year service recruits for Company F Eighth Regiment. Applicants must be physically sound and morally upright. No pay but uniforms and gear are provided and camp life annually under state pay. Guardsmen will encamp at Chicago during the world fair. Applications due before Wednesday April 1 to Captain C. W. Zomerrman.

The Alliance Leader reports officials ordered all passenger conductors to report their total time on passenger trains. William Lyons, hired in 1850, worked as freight band brakeman and conductor, promoted to conductor in May 1859 and has served nearly thirty two years in the same role, one of the city’s oldest railroad men.
