Massillon City Council voted 6 3 to repeal a 73 year old municipal ban on panhandling after weeks of debate. The measure removes restrictions on requesting money within city limits to avoid potential free speech liability. Councilman Mike Gregg said the law isn t constitutional and should be removed from the books.
The Music Shoppe owner John Soppelean launches Last Saturday a monthly downtown Massillon event starting April 27 featuring music, discounts, and entertainment at ten local venues including Benders Tavern and The Alibi. Soppelean aims to spotlight Massillon’s downtown vibe with drinks sandwiches and a simple, fun community night out.
Ten venues commit to live performances when Massillon's Last Saturday launches on April 27. Participating sites include Paradigm Shift Craft Brewery, Angry Barbeque Southern Kitchen, Benders Tavern, Jen's Place tap room, Kozma's Grille, Tremont Coffee Co, Harters Downtown, The Alibi, Newman Creek Cellars, and Bella Sera with street addresses listed.

Nearly 30 people applied to lead Stark County's largest district, Canton City Schools. among the candidates are 10 superintendents, 3 assistants, and 6 principals. Notable applicants include Jeffery Talbert of Alliance City Schools and Michael Shreffler of Northwest Local Schools. Talbert is a Canton native and Timken High School graduate who previously led McKinley High School. He has held roles in several districts before becoming a superintendent.
