Senator Portman joined 11 Republicans and Senator Brown in opposing the presidents emergency declaration to fund a border wall. The House also urged release of Mueller final report, with a 420 to 0 vote asking Attorney General Barr to publish findings on Russian interference in the 2016 campaign.
Massillon begins a spring project to revamp a five block downtown stretch. Workers from Haymaker Tree and Lawn remove 30 trees along Lincoln Way from First Street NW to Third Street SE, paving the way for sidewalk replacement and other upgrades. The city pays $4,500 for the two day job. Further work is planned later this month by the Engineering Department.
The former Remlinger's Quality Auto Sales building at 215 Erie St. N Massillon is in early remodel to attract tenants. Work started last month and will continue into May under J.D. Real Estate project manager Tim Boerner. Debris is being cleared as interior upgrades proceed.
Canton judge acquitted Diquan O. Hall, 25, of Canton, after a bench trial over alleged animal cruelty at the Stark County Humane Society. Judge Chryssa Hartnett criticized the society’s investigation, saying there was not enough evidence to convict. Prosecutors relied mainly on brief video evidence from the humane society.
