A roundup of daily town happenings and social notices lists arrivals, visits, and events. Notables include H Haltzer returning from Pittsburg, multiple Cleveland trips, church services, a candidate withdrawal, and a funeral attended by St. Joseph's Society members. Also notes on canal traffic, electric railways interest, and a Dr Gardner dinner with a large stag party menu.
A local physician Dr D S Gardner faced harsh criticism after he failed to provide daily visits for Albert Davs in Lippo. A quack then advised immersion baths in hot water with toxic additives. The boy died after a third immersion, with doctors calling the treatment barbarous and preposterous.
Stark county commissioners sold twenty five thousand dollars in bonds to George A. Lewis & Co of Chicago at a premium of five hundred twenty one dollars fifty cents. Bonds bear five percent interest semi annually with twelve thousand due in six years and thirteen thousand in seven. Elmer Redman and Katie Kurtz wed license granted to wed in Alliance. Barbara Jenoir named executrix of J G Jenoir estate. Mary Striker sues Dannemiller executor for one thousand four hundred thirty six. Ulysses Vaiblett adjudged insane to Toledo asylum. previously jailed for cutting with intent to wound. W G Gilliand also declared insane to asylum.
A great fire rages in Buffalo causing losses reported at 75000 dollars. Dudley Hall and Co tea merchants of Boston failed for half a million. Judge Thompson of Louisville Kentucky ruled this morning that pool rooms cannot be suppressed in Kentucky under gambling charges.
The INDEPENDENT savings bank pass books are exhausted and new stock will be ready by Thursday. Boys not yet one should note the date and return Thursday to the editorial office. The Christian church ladies will host a supper in the new church at East and Oak on Tuesday evening March 10 from 4 30 to 8 featuring biscuits maple syrup meats and coffee.
