Local items list visits and arrivals from Akron Canton Cleveland and Massillon. A Petersham of events includes births deaths and marriages, with board of trade, Hose Company results, school and church notes, and a 300-strong Lied erkranz Society concert praised for its choruses and Miss Lizzie Ertle’s performance.
Feuchtinger directed the society as Feuchtinger and Olenhausen impressed with a beautiful violin and piano duet. An encore followed as the audience expressed great satisfaction. Mitchell Ridge and the ladies delivered strong vocal duets with notable range and expression. Lizzie Sibila accompanied the program.
Mrs Betsy J Millard aged 90 years 4 months 19 days died this morning at her daughter Mrs Nahum S Russell’s residence in Prospect Street. She leaves eight children 28 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Brief funeral at 3 pm at the residence. remains go to Millett Park Indiana where her husband is buried.
The fifteen year old son of John Brice, employed in the Sippo mine, was crushed between two cars last Thursday and brought home to Boss Smiths Corners. Parents did not call a doctor initially due to cost, but the township physician was summoned after the boy complained of pain. He was found to be injured internally and may die.
Mr. Clement Russell recalls a Canton trip with Martin Withington Sam Jones and others to celebrate President William Henry Harrison. A Perry township board meeting approved plans for a new District No 6 school house and appointed a committee for drawings and specifications. Hose Company No 4 nominated officers including Foreman Charles Hanes and First Assistant James Taxton.
In Mayor's Court a pair of officers arrested Peter Kespinger who stabbed Martin Roach six times in the back and brought him to the city. He posted bail of 200 dollars for a preliminary hearing Saturday at 10 o'clock. Dr. J. F. Gardner signed the bond. The notice also mentions protests and signatures opposing a county memorial scheme and an Ohio Beneficial Society lodge planned in Massillon with Chas A. Parsons to attend.
A letter from O Preece dated March 1 1891 denounces a Canton memorial hall plan funded by 75 000 in stock and 60 000 in local taxes. Pike township ex soldiers condemn taxation and adopt remonstrance resolutions urging the Ohio legislature and local papers to publish their protest.
