Born in Meiselheim, he emigrated in 1838 and settled in Massillon with a widow, six daughters, and two sons, one deceased. Funeral from St. Mary’s German Catholic church at 9 AM Thursday.

Colored Man Rescued From River Grave At Cherry Street Bridge
A middle aged colored man named Sam Washington attempted suicide by entering the river this morning near the Cherry street bridge. He had no clothes on and said he planned to go to Chicago but lacked money. A passerby stopped him and he was taken to the mayor and later to Canton after receiving food and care.
