An observer recalls meeting Senator Peffer on a train between Alliance and Canton. Peffer supports free silver and says he will complete his term to serve his constituents. He predicts McKinley’s fall election and explains fiat money in a wide ranging, characterful exchange.
Ex Governor George Hoadly of Ohio warns money Democrats cannot back a free silver candidate. He predicts McKinley’s victory and urges a bolting ticket if Chicago nominates free silver. He proposes Waller or McMahon as bolt leaders, with Altgeld and John Most as presidential and vice presidential picks.
Fifty eight bids opened for Massillon state hospital sub contracts. J W Myers & Co Ashland win the main contract for all work except heating and electrical for 224957.42 dollars. Chafee & Becker Cleveland win heating at 37821, Russell Engine Co Massillon furnishes engines at 2200, Card Electrical Co Manefield supplies dynamos for 7094, Burdett Roundtree Co Chicago handles wiring at 4490. Total project cost 274362.42 dollars. A separate notice advertises Christian Endeavor convention transport via Pennsylvania Short Lines July 4 5 6 7 with return by July 31. Wrights Celery Tea advertised.
Canton notes recount a night clash on South Cherry Street when burglars attempted Eichert's grocery, four officers arrived, the burglars fled and fired about twenty shots, with no injuries and no trace found. Robert Tipping died after an 17 year struggle with inflammatory rheumatism and complications. He was born in Ireland in 1538 and lived much of his life in Scotland before immigrating to the Massilloni district in 1871. He leaves wife Mary Miller, a son John Tipping, a daughter, and four step children Mary Campbell Canton James Miller Mrs John Featheringham Mrs Grace Saunders and Thomas Miller. Clarence Hulett, a fireman, was seriously injured on West Street river bridge last week when a muzzle loading shotgun discharged. The load tore a hole through his left ankle and instep. the foot was amputated by Dr. Neil Hardy with assistants. He was taken to Wilcox hotel and is resting today as conditions allow.

Fire insurance agents retaliate against Chicago by raising city premiums 4 percent in response to a city ordinance taxing non Tinos corporations two percent of gross premiums. The Chicago Underwriters Association met in emergency session and aims to pressure repeal of the ordinance by this rate hike.
Flora Stone testified she recognized the votes of the murderer of her father and mother as Romulus Cotell. The state asserted the confession was involuntary and admissible, while Attorney Voris argued to exclude it despite Kohler filing it competent.
