Rear Admiral John C. Watson arrived aboard the Zafiro and hoisted his flag on the Baltimore while visiting by fleet captains. Wheaton’s forces entered Perez das Marinas without serious opposition, with five killed and 23 wounded. Otis reports Wheaton advancing toward Das Marinas with reinforcements and heavy enemy losses.
Pittsburg June 21 Lieutenant Colonel Barnett reports in Cavite May 2 that Colonel Hawkins has not received a full brigadier promotion. The delay perplexes Hawkins friends who expect a quick appointment and homeward orders after a suggestion from General MacArthur. The letter notes weight loss and poor health, with efforts to resolve the stalled appointment in Washington.
A severe storm struck Storm Field area and extended to Shelby and Loudonville, Ohio. Homes and businesses flooded, street cars and factories inundated, with two hundred casino patrons trapped overnight. Damage estimates reach 30,000 in Storm Field, 100,000 in bridges and roadways, plus 200,000 in crops and livestock losses. Isaac Hunter missing after Horsetail Creek flood.

President McKinley attends Mount Holyoke College commencement and receives the degree of Doctor of Civil Laws. Grace McKinley, his niece, also graduates and Mrs. McKinley hosts a quiet evening at the Whiting residence after the ceremonies. The day includes a steamer ride and a platform reception with about 2,100 attendees in the village. The president later continues to Adams, Massachusetts, for related events before returning to Washington.
Toledo Mayor S M Jones urges in The Record that trusts reflect a social impulse and should be harnessed for public benefit. He envisions municipal ownership and cooperative action to reclaim private property, leading to a cooperative commonwealth owned and run by the people.
The smaller Fort Pickens magazine blew up after catching fire. One death, four wounded including severe arm and leg injuries. Several labor quarters and parts of the old fort storehouse damaged. The larger magazine containing dynamite was saved by Captain Niewmann and marines from the navy yard.
New York June 21 Dr Alvah P Doty health officer of the port announces successful results from a serum produced in his laboratory to prevent yellow fever He plans to send samples to Havana for use in saving lives of yellow fever patients there and nearby communities.
New York report quotes General Nelson A. Miles saying the Philippines situation is very serious and that the decision to call for volunteers has not been made. He declines to discuss the matter further, stating he is here on private business.
Paris June 21 President Loubet summoned M Bourgeois head of the government party to form a new cabinet. The move follows political shifts in the French capital as leadership changes unfold.
Port Townsend and Victoria cables describe Dawson as crowded with idle men willing to work for low wages thirty five cents an hour plus board. Reports say hundreds lack prospects and may need government aid to leave. A Seattle message notes a Prince Luigi backed mining expedition near Port Clarence Alaska yielding rich claims. Tees brings 50 Dawson passengers plus gold dust and a sensational Dadley river strike with virgin gold chunks fueling a Dawson stampede.
The thirty third annual G A R encampment of Ohio opened in the Youxetown opera house with a welcome by Mayor Moore and responses by J H Winship. Department Commander Pugh spoke in the morning. afternoon covered routine work and next meeting sites. Cleveland seeks next encampment, with Columbus as possible permanent headquarters. Candidates for department commander include Monfort of Cincinnati and Shinn of Ashland. The Woman's Relief Corps and Ladies of the G A R also held conventions.

Virgin soil faces typhoons and dagudo winds, labor and land clearing hurdles, poor roads and shipping, scarce credit, and falling crop prices. Diseases from new soils cause severe illness and death in some cases.
Hartville Mo June 21 John Kennedy convicted of complicity in the Kansas City Fort Scott and Memphis railroad train robbery at Macombe Mo on January 1st his punishment fixed at 17 years in the penitentiary.
James Armstrong, a millman, shot and killed Thomas Welsh on the South Side and then killed himself. The fatal act followed jealousy over Welsh's alleged attentions to Armstrong's wife, who had left him.
A large mob surrounded South Side barns of the Big Consolidated company in Curvetasp on January 21 as non union workers were targeted. Stones shattered car windows and injured passengers while a motorman fired into the crowd. Conductor and worker beatings and two cars forced to stop, with no arrests reported. Four hundred Cleveland Foundry employees struck after their foreman was accused of riding a car, prompting mass walkout and police confrontation.
In Clevelando on June 21 committees for both sides and the city council met privately to set an end to the strike. No cars were run today along disputed lines as tensions were anticipated.
Philadelphia June 21. A J Cassatt was elected president of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, which operates lines west of Pittsburgh, placing him in control of the entire system.
In Springfield Massachusetts the President arrived at 11 00 and rode through city streets and armory grounds. After luncheon he was taken to the city bar where a gundorm was erected.
