Jim Harrison recalls his uncle U S Army Sgt Frank G Harrison who died in a sea attack before D-Day. Harrison was a painter sculptor at Massillon Museum and is remembered as a peaceful man who faced the prospect of war at Utah Beach on June 6 1944.

D-Day marked turning point in WWII invasion

History.com notes the June 6 1944 Normandy landings code named Operation Overlord as the start of the end of the European war. About 156000 Allied troops landed on five beaches including Utah and Omaha, with thousands killed or wounded and northern France liberated by August.

Canton nursing home lands on poor care list

Canton Christian Home at 2550 Cleveland Avenue NW was named among about 400 nursing homes nationwide under heightened scrutiny for poor care. CMS notes the list reflects deficiencies found by inspectors, with facilities placed in the Special Focus Facility program pending improvement or removal. The home attributed the citations to one isolated incident and stressed actions were taken to address the issue.
