Washington, June 5. Attorney General Olney is expected to be offered the state department portfolio to succeed the late Secretary Gresham. A lengthy list of names is discussed, including ex-Postmaster General Dickinson and Holmes Conrad, with Uhl eyed as a potential successor for solicitor general. Olney’s record includes pivotal roles in the Chicago strike and the Reading railroad case, earning broad esteem for constitutional adherence and labor rights.

No opposition to W C Brady for governor. eight candidates for lieutenant governor and seven other tickets. Convention to denounce silver, favor gold standard, reaffirm tariff plank. Several other briefs report Northwest steamship voyage with George Gould and Roswell P Flower among guests, a New York party heading to Chicago and Duluth, and a marriage in Maven Crick Pa. Four more passengers saved in a separate report from Mexico.
A Democratic state executive committee message from Cleveland dated June 5 urges the party to convene Ohio’s state convention promptly. It accuses Senator Calvin S Brice of blocking action, calls for the central committee to meet, and favors readoption of the 16 to 1 gold silver standard plank.
