Bears on the prowl prompt Ohio wildlife bear proof advice
The Ohio Division of Wildlife warns residents, especially in Northeast Ohio, to bear proof yards as black bear sightings rise in summer. Spokeswoman Jamey Emmett says young male bears wander to claim territory, with about a dozen sightings this year, mainly in Ashtabula Geauga and Lake counties. Officials urge removing bird feeders uneaten pet food exposed trash and keeping dogs leashed, noting bears are most active at dawn and dusk and can bluff charge if threatened.
