Canton city officials in white suits joined about a dozen officers, medics and interns in a live action active shooter drill at the former Baxter Elementary School. Soap rounds simulated gunfire as officials played hostages and shooters to teach rapid decision making, building clearing and victim care.

Ohio Department of Transportation will close Route 172 between Elden Road NW and 30th Street NW in Massillon and Tuscarawas Township for 30 days to replace a bridge. Ongoing drainage repairs east of Deermont Avenue continue into August with lane restrictions. Detour via Route 93 to 241 to 21. Residents, garbage trucks, and mail delivery will have access.
