Lorain ex-postmaster charged with salary theft
M. J. Alton, former Lorain Ohio postmaster who retired April 1, was arrested on a charge of stealing 2166.85 from two young clerks who received pay increases. He was released on 1000 dollars bail by Commissioner Uhl. The charge says he kept the increased salaries for himself after the postmaster general approved the raises.
Three Trainmen Killed In Norfolk And Western Crash
Portsmouth July 19 three trainmen were killed and three seriously injured in a fog wreck on the Norfolk and Western near Haverhill. The dead include Freight Engineer George Sloan Coal Grove and George Egbert Portsmouth fireman of a passenger train.
