Carpenter George W Rhodes Accused of Forcing Wife Out In Cold

Mrs Rhodes testified her husband George W Rhodes intoxicated at home, waved a knife, threatened to kill her and the children, then turned her out at four in the morning. She said she and her child were left shoeless and half dressed in freezing weather. Rhodes denied the claim, was held for appearances, and released on own recognizance to return at 7:30 pm. He had recently moved to the city from Canton.

Fire at Elm Run Mine Destroys Engine House

A Sunday morning fire of unknown origin at the Elm Run mine destroyed the frame engine house and charred the foundation. Engineer Ed Swihart lost clothes, thirty dollars, and a gold watch chain. Hoisting rope burned, cages fell to the shaft bottom, mine operations halted for a week. no insurance.
