RAIL MAGNATE Cassatt Dies After Ill Health and Whooping Cough
Philadelphia December 29. Alexander Johnston Cassatt president of the Pennsylvania railroad died from heart weakness extended by a whooping cough caught from grandchildren at Bar Harbor last September. His death shocks the railroad offices and delays official business. He led the railway for years while facing interstate commerce commission rebate probes and had just returned from Europe before his illness. Cassatt, born in 1859 in Pittsburgh, led six other companies and sat on 23 boards with wealth estimated between 50 and 75 million dollars. First Vice President Green to run affairs for now. In New York, corporation counsel Ellison moves to sue seven electric light companies for about 3.6 million dollars overcharged consumers in six years.
