Canton Councils Reject Board of Trade Offer on Bond Shift

Canton officials, meeting Sunday, rejected a Board of Trade proposal to modify the injunction so $12 000 could be borrowed. They require Board consent to modify the injunction to permit $83 000 in bonds to cover debts and expenses until the new city administration takes over under the new code. All funds except the general fund are overdrawn, risking layoffs of police, fire and street workers until March. The council outlined salaries under the new code with the board of public service at five members paying $2 000 yearly, public safety at four members at $1 000, the council president $1 000, council members $150, the mayor $2 500 plus fees, the city solicitor $2 500, the city treasurer $8 000, and the city auditor $2 900.
