Busy Congress Faces Long Winter Session
The piece surveys the upcoming winter session of Congress under President Roosevelt, predicting heavy work with 77 days, battles over the ship subsidy, railway labor hours, a new battleship plan, a dental corps for the armed forces, and possible income and inheritance tax measures. It notes debates on colonial possessions, swamp drainage, and a federal marriage and divorce law, plus racial tensions from the Brownsville incident and the Smoot seat controversy. The Missouri Twelfth district drama concludes with Ernest Wood elected after a history of contested results.
