In Clarlessk the Supreme Lodge of the Knights of Pythias opened with nearly all supreme representatives present. The ball room at the Pythian Temple was lavishly decorated as 48 new candidates received supreme lodge rank. A five mile parade drew about 4,500 participants, hailed as the finest yet. Separate brigade meetings occurred at state headquarters amid political notes and local incidents from Ohio towns, including arrests, fire losses, and accidents.
Cleveland August 26 Garrett Hobart Republican nominee for vice president visited Major McKinley at Canton and predicted eastern states will vote for the Republican ticket. Hobart praised McKinley’s choice to stay in Canton and discuss issues with delegations. Kohlsaat reported progress as satisfactory with western campaigns forthcoming and additional delegations planned for the week.
Platt refused the Republican nomination for governor as 14 aspirants battled for the post. Aldridge and Fish led the field. two ballots failed. The platform endorsed the St. Louis platform McKinley Hobart Morton administration, condemning free silver. Mil ler spoke after exclusion from state convention. Miller praised party loyalty amid crowd approval. In SRIBREREEN an Irish American coroner Alfred George Whitehead, released from prison, has gone deranged after visiting his mother and vanished.
