W R Woodford of the G L & W arrived in Massillon to discuss a new depot. Mayor Wise credited for pushing options, plans not fixed, location possible on the Spuhler lot or the present station site, with construction target before winter.
Max Dingler and Miss Florence Wendling of 64 Duncan Street marry and announce his departure on Saturday to join his regiment at Fort Sheridan. Enlisted last May, he returns on a ten days furlough and expects embarkation for the Philippines within four weeks for a two year service, while Mrs. Dingler remains in the city at the bride’s parents’ home.
Postmaster L A Koons at Massillon received official notice from Washington that another carrier is to be added with effect October 1. John F Thompson will be nominated as the present substitute. Ralph Snyder stands second and will be named substitute. Redistricting will reduce to eleven carriers. Koons had sought two extra helpers but the department granted one.
Canton and Massillon street railway workers organized a new union with 56 members. It will be Canton Massillon Electric Street Railway Union No. 211 under the Amalgamated Association of Street Railway Employes of America. Officers installed include President John Oldfield Canton and other Canton Massillon leaders W S Reinhart recording secretary and Adam Felix financial secretary.
The state hospital plans Friday dances to resume in September in the dining hall until the amusement hall is finished. Delays in frescoing and floor work keep completion uncertain, with scaffolding ready for artists though late arrival slows progress. Building depends on next winter's legislature funding and emergency board authority.
East Liverpool report that Canton was chosen as the 1902 meeting place by the Ohio district convention of the Sons of St George which adjourned today. Nominees for grand officers include President Thomas Austin Cleveland and W Smith Canton Vice president George Erskine Anderson Ind Robert Williams East Liverpool Secretary Fred Stork Cleveland and Thomas Booth Youngstown Treasurer E E Ashby Cleveland.

Negotiations at Amalgamated offices reported as promising by leaders, with hints of a key change within six days affecting the conflict and union strength amid measures to keep plants non union.
Philadelphia August 24 The M A Machold agency at 120 South Sixth street seeks five hundred strike breakers to travel to Pittsburg. They will target the Startin plate works. Wage offers mirror last year’s scale with protection guaranteed. Rates range from 2 50 to 25 cents per day.
