Massillon road resurfacing at halfway stage this year
Massillon's annual road resurfacing program is about halfway done with 32 municipal streets involved in a multimillion dollar project. Sixteen roads have finished or are near completion, another 16 are in progress or have not started. The city expects work through much of fall, possibly until October, with about 12 miles of roadway to be repaved this year. Superior Paving & Materials handles most work. the Massillon Street Department handles smaller tasks.

Prostate cancer awareness group formed in Plain Township
Luis Lacourt organized a Prostate Cancer Support Group six months after his diagnosis to break silence about the disease. The group meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday each month at Newpointe Community Church. Lacourt, a Perry Township resident and school counselor, aims to reduce stigma and support men through screenings and discussion.

Fire destroys Walnut Creek Amish Flea Market in Sugarcreek
A morning fire at 1900 State Route 39 in Holmes County heavily damaged the Walnut Creek Amish Country Flea Market. No injuries were reported as investigators from local fire departments and the State Fire Marshal examine the cause. About 20 fire stations responded. water supply was a major challenge. The market, 55,000 square feet with 50 vendors, is owned by Richard and Betty Zimmerman and daughter January Tango.

Graduation rules now require literacy and math readiness
