Man Bleeds to Death as Foot Pierces Window Glass

Thomas W. Sayers of Rhodes survives a peculiar accident when his sleepily placed foot stabbed through a window glass, severing an artery in his heel. He awoke bleeding and was saved by rapid action, moving his bed to the room's other side. School excursion ends with pleasant lake outing

A group from a local school enjoyed a last Thursday trip to Silver Lake with clear skies and cheerful weather. Families from Crystal Spring and Massillon joined in nearby get togethers after a ten day Camp Rest escape at Turkeyfoot Lake. Navarre reports include visits by State School Commissioner E A Jones in Columbus, and various residents traveling between Massillon and Columbiana County.

Knights of St John Sixth district field day in Akron

The Sixth district commandery of Ohio Knights of St John will hold its eleventh annual field day and military drill at Silverlake on Labor Day. Features include battalion and prize drills with six commanderies, a noon basket picnic, and reviews by Colonel Joseph Winum and a three judge panel. Drills start at 2 pm on the baseball grounds with commanderies from Akron Canton Massillon Alliance Navarre and Navarre.

Murray School Ends Eighth Annual Reunion With Dinner and Games

The Murray school reunion drew about 230 ex-pupils teachers and friends to the old schoolhouse on the plains between Massillon and Navarre. A program of literary and musical numbers followed by a country dinner featured long tables under the oaks and several athletic events. Officers were elected for the coming year and the next reunion is set for August 17 1966.

Canton-Akron railway clash over double track on Mahoning Street

Canton officials and General Manager Dimmock argue over laying a second track in Mahoning street. City Engineer Myers provided stakes but a grade error occurred. Dimmock refuses to lower tracks claiming the city engineer set the grade. Private contract. council meeting Monday night expected to hear volleys. Pastors named for St Marys church assignments

The Rev. Francis B Doherty of Defiance is named pastor of St Josephs church to succeed Rev Vollmayer at St Marys Massillon, while Rev Michael Vollmayer of St Josephs in Massillon is appointed St Marys pastor to replace the late Rev Aloysius Huthmacher. Bishop Horstmann notified the changes Thursday. Vollmayer to begin services August 4. The Rev John J Lillis will likely remain as curate.

One Week Delay At St Josephs Parish

Miraculous Escape Aboard Idlewild Sinks Lake Erie Squall

Four hour terror aboard the Idlewild as a Lake Erie squall tore through the steamer. Misses Mae Bartel and Anna Holland of Massillon survived with others after the hull buckled, masts missing, and lifeboats and lines proving lifesaving under Captain Cassin’s masterful seamanship and heroic deck actions by Mate Morrissey and crew. The Idlewild, battered but afloat, was towed toward Buffalo as tugs Connenut and Grace Danforth aided the rescue amid raging seas and mass panic onboard.

Taft Entertainment Includes Sultan of Sulu Proposal

Secretary Taft hosted a grand parade ground reception with the Sultan of Sulu and Miss Roosevelt in attendance. Thousands joined in festive events including light bull fighting. The Sultan offered marriage to Miss Roosevelt, pledging his people’s desire for her to stay. He gave gifts to both Miss Roosevelt and Taft. Congressman Longworth aided Fred O'Brien when he nearly drowned after cramps while bathing.
