In Navarre a man faces legal trouble as another fire damages property valued at 3000 dollars. The Fulton News reports on local politics, a concert committee in Fulton Lawrence, and varied town news including residents in Dalton, Crystal Spring, and Canan.
The Third Annual Miller and Newstetter reunion drew about 130 relatives to the Miller home three miles northwest of the city. In the orchard a program featured songs, speeches by Harvey L. Miller and Judge A Vorhis, child recitations, and a business meeting electing D W Walter as president and others. The next reunion is slated for August 1900. A baseball game was interrupted by bumblebees.

Regimental officers and company leaders of the Eighth regiment of the U R K P are ordered to convene in this city on September. Colonel J C F Putnam says officers will wear fatigue uniforms. Massillon street fair arrangements provide for entertainment for attending Knights. The U A E P brigade meet aims to elect staff officers. The brigade includes all Ohio regiments. North Lawrence merchants held a Silverlake picnic with a late ball game between Kent and North Lawrence clubs ending 21 to 8 for Kent. A fight erupted injuring two Kent men and a North Lawrence catcher before play resumed.
The Rev J K Little of A M E Zion church argues tobacco and whisky are not sins, urging temperance with reason. He compares tobacco use to cabbage eating, says dock of dissension is worse, and plans to preach about unjust discrimination upon his Lisbon trip and return.
The Minnesota Union Advocate lauds M. D. Ratchford of Massillon after his St Paul visit and Edaho trip, calling him a strong, decisive leader in organized labor with athletic build, eloquence, insight, and dedication.
The Eighth Ohio possibly to attend Admiral Dewey’s New York reception, with two potential roles: represent Ohio or ride free via the Pennsylvania Railroad. A Columbus officers’ meeting is planned to decide the plan after several weeks of preparation.

Russell and Company shut down Saturday for repairs at Reed and Company displays for the World’s Fair. J L Arnold of the Ohio Table Company says about 300 applications for work have been received, mainly from boys and parents, but no hires yet. Twenty mechanics hired, arriving next week from West Parming ton Youngstown Salem and Michigan. Operations likely not before Monday August 28. The tile addition to the works will finish this week with steam heated lumber, boilers in place, shafting attached. The Harrison Exhibit at Mt Gretna PA features Massillon plant products including feed cutters and land rollers. Exhibits move to Williams Grove and then the Ohio State Fair at Columbus. Reed and Company repairs completed, glassmaking to resume when date set. Russell and Hess, Snyder unclear about Paris exposition representation.
Z. T. Shoemaker says rumors of plans with J. S. Coxey to build a steel making enterprise are false. He confirms Coxey bought land near Pauis from him but adds there has been no further action or agreement.
The season for threshing machine production has ended at Russell & Company. Many workers relocate to other departments while inventories are set for the last week of September. The old C. C. S. line is disappearing as Wheeling & Lake Erie absorbs the road and new officials replace the former Sc. C. & S. leaders. General Passenger Agent Townsend and F C Gates arrive with clerks to reorganize the purchasing and office staff.
The state hospital farm uses a Haerlin irrigation system to water a garden grid from wells via a fire plug. Construction on the office building is done, grass seeding ready, and an artificial lake will be built north of the superintendent’s residence with plans for east-side ponds. Salary day occurred, with funds sent to Massillon.

St Paul’s German Catholic Church, among the city’s largest, burned today. The building would have marked its golden anniversary in October. Stained windows cost 220.0 and nothing was saved. surrounding tombs and nearby oaks sustained damage.
Curiaco Aug 1 The Afro American press says the national administration shelved resolutions expressing sympathy for Dreyfus after racial prejudice. The action leaves the matter unresolved amid ongoing concerns over discrimination.
Secretary Root has ordered the Twenty-seventh Thirty first and Thirty fourth regiments to move to San Francisco at once. The Thirty first will depart Fort Thomas shortly.
Shelbyville Indiana reports deputy sheriff Sheridan Kalenberg, age forty and single, fell asleep at an upstairs window, toppled out and broke his neck. The Associated Press notes the fatal accident occurred last night.
Washington Aug 19 dispatch from the Associated Press states no confirmation yet from General Brooke regarding the arrest of Jiminez, leader of the San Domingo revolution, and no word has been received.
Care Havytten reports that on August 19 insurgents defeated Government troops in Monte Christi, San Domingo. The clash ends with insurgent gains and government setback on the northern coast.
Hamilton Aug 1 The Democratic county convention instructed Lean for governor and Bryan for president in a clear political delegation report.
Rubonic plague spread to Oporto Portugal, brought from India on a steamer. Forty six cases are reported.
