Mob Seizes George Graham at Springfield Jail
A mob of about four hundred armed men overpowered Sheriff Donnell at Springfield Missouri and hanged George E. Graham, the wife murderer, after forcibly entering the county jail. The crowd then moved toward Mulloy place, but redirected and executed Graham on a tree within the city limits within an hour of the assault. The incident followed a jail break and highlighted local unrest and vigilante action.
