In a summary court session Prosecuting Attorney Day ordered the release of John Saigot from city prison after testimony by the coroner and the prisoner, as officials considered the shooting of his brother Michael Saigot Monday an accident. Funeral services for Michael were held Thursday at St. Mary's cemetery. Meanwhile a delirious inmate imagined an attack by two Italians, whetted an imaginary knife, and muttered about doom for his foes. A drunken man nicknamed Silverwater sang, begged for a fine, and was accommodated once sober. Two more intoxication cases were heard, one with the blind staggers and another normal, both paying fines.

Apostle Cannon Dead in California Mission Leader of Mormons
Apostle George Q Cannon, a prominent Mormon leader, died in Monterny California. Born January 11 1827 in Liverpool he arrived in America in 1844 and was ordained elder in 1845. He joined the Nauvoo exodus to California in 1846 and spent years in Hawaii. He founded the Western Standard in 1855 and became a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in 1880. He served as a delegate to Congress from 1872 to 1880 and was a counselor to the church president.
