Man to serve 30 days in Minerva village jail

A Marlboro Township man ordered to serve 30 days for a stray bullet incident will do so in Minerva’s 209 N Market St village jail. The move assigns the sentence to Stark County’s only overnight lockup, as Alliance Canton and Massillon use temporary holds and inmates are transported elsewhere.

Winter warmth prompts crowds to area parks and trails

Independent staff notes temperatures around 70 as spring returns and urges safe outdoor use. With many Stark County and area parks, residents are reminded to lock valuables, wear helmets and sunscreen, bring first aid and cell phones, supervise children, announce when passing, stay right on trails, avoid feeding wildlife, and dress for weather.

Keep our parks clean by using garbage cans for all trash including gum. Bring bags to pick up dog droppings and keep dogs leashed unless in a fenced dog park. Dispose of cigarette butts properly and never leave them on the ground.

Sippo Park Run starts April 20 at Sippo Lake Park, a free 5K with universal bar code registration. North Park in Jackson Township unveils a new playground at 7660 Fulton Rd NW, plus a pond deck and upcoming amphitheater project.
