Murder Trial Opens With Jury Selection in Canton
Canton April court convened at 2 PM to begin the jury selection for the murder case of Mrs George. Twelve jurors were chosen from Massillon and Canton residents. the indictment charges her with killing George Saxton on October 7, 1898. Prosecutor Pomerene outlined the state’s case, detailing the alleged premeditation and threats, while defense counsel Welty argued the defendant’s presumption of innocence. The court adjourned for the day with trial to resume Saturday morning and witnesses excused until 9:30.
