The council approves a strict dog registration ordinance charging $1 for male dogs and $2 for females with collars and muzzling during dog days. The marshal may kill unregistered dogs to fund the dog account as owners refuse compliance.
Bellefontaine papers report Judge Brodrick plans another term as common pleas judge for the Logan Union district. His current term ends February 1913 with the election set for November 1912. Elected as an independent, he defeated late Judge Duncan Dow. Democrats gave no candidate. Marysville residents saw the Wells-Forepaugh circus in Columbus Monday.
A week of work by a force of men repaired the city hall roof after earlier plans for a full replacement. The roof now patched should last several years. Leaks had required buckets during heavy rain. Weidman Bros completed the new hose tower and southwest property room, now in use.
Edward F. Healey longtime Big Four agent in Marysville and Anna M. Martin daughter of Lawrence and Mrs Martin were married last Wednesday in the Catholic church. The ceremony was followed by a house keeping period at their North Walnut Street home. Healey, renowned for his service to the road, married a former Gold Mine millinery store manager.
Claude V. Wetzel a paper hanger from Unionville risked his life on Feb 20 1910 by diving into the Big Darby to rescue Clair Evans a six year old who broke through thin ice while skating Wetzel discarded his wedding license and coat and pulled the boy from the icy water He earned a Carnegie hero medal bronze medal and 1000 for a home and later married a daughter of John Dunfee of Unionville Center
The Mansfield reformatory superintendent and chaplain recommend Anthony Pfarr of Dover township for parole. Pfarr was sent last fall and the parole case is scheduled for hearing on May 16.
Beginning last Monday the local post office force will weigh and count every piece of mail that comes in and goes out. The process will continue through May as officials study handling times and weights. Postmaster Mullen reports Washington has requested a detailed month long tally.
The executive committee named delegates and alternates to attend the state convention in Dayton June 6 to 8, including C. S. Chapman J. M. Peel Mrs. John Fleck Hazel Elliott and many others. The county convention will be held at New Dover June 1 and 2 1911 with ten delegates for the first fifty enrollment and five for each additional fifty.
Over the past week a new section has been laid out in Oakdale cemetery by Sexton V J Payne and assistants. Stumps were removed lots measured plots graded and driveways laid. Oakdale fills rapidly as country residents prefer its care and many new monuments rise this spring. The cemetery will look grand on Decoration Day.
Arthur Vock and his bride have moved to housekeeping at 222 East Fifth Street and will host friends at their new home.
Judge Brodrick sustains the demurrer filed by York county commissioners in the James Heath damage case. The petition failed to show negligence by the commissioners over an eight inch dirt buildup at the bridge end. Don H. Burnham, administrator, will appeal to the circuit court. amended petition may be filed in common pleas.
Henry Hagenlocker of Jerome township married Lulu B Knotts daughter of E B Knotts of Paris Township by Rev E S Weaver at the M E parsonage They will reside on Hagenlockers Jerome township farm and are at home to friends
Luther hall hosted a Trinity Lutheran Benevolent Society benefit attracting a filled venue and many turned away. The program showcased piano solos, choral pieces by a 50-voice group, elocution by Prof. William Nordseick, and the humorous sketch Ye Village School of Long Ago with about 30 participants.
Amanda P. Smith sues J. F. Gugle of Jerome township for 2035 dollars with interest from March 1, 1909, claiming breach of a January 6, 1908 lease that required farm upkeep. She alleges depreciation and a sale at 20 dollars per acre less, seeks 2000 dollars damages and 35 dollars back rent. attorney is Matthew L. Bigger of Columbus.
Casper Ruhl a prosperous farmer from Darby township and Miss Louise Conrad of Marysville wed Sunday afternoon at the bride’s brother L. C. Conrad’s home. Rev. H. C. Kuechle of St. John’s Lutheran church officiated in the presence of relatives and friends. The couple will reside on Ruhl’s farm in the German settlement. Ruhl has served two terms on the Union County infirmary board. Chas T. Bass of Columbus the Barber Asphalt Co road department representative visited to discuss Seventh and Locust streets improvements with the council and city engineer.
Marysville high school will graduate thirty four students on June 1 marking one of the largest classes in the school's history. In April only five cases were filed in the county clerk's office, the fewest under Charles Parrott's tenure. March logged twelve cases. The office once handled twice this volume, with civil and criminal suits common. Many cases are now settled out of court.
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Woodburn Wandell were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of her aunts Misses Florence and Louella Woodburn conducted by Rev. William Atkinson and burial was made in Oakdale. Deceased had been a Toledo resident for several years and died at her aunts' home from tuberculosis. She leaves a husband with no children.
Irwin high school will hold its annual commencement Thursday evening May 18 with Prof. S. D. Fess of Antioch College giving the class address. Two graduates are Mabel Miller and Yale Roots, while Fay Lee has died recently from brain fever said to be caused by overwork. The program promises a strong program and the public is invited.
A proposal to upgrade Ellwood Avenue south of the county fair grounds asks property owners to cover topdressing costs while the commissioners pay grading labor crushed stone. The council will consider at next meeting amid taxpayer support. New Dover hosts county Sunday school convention June 1 2 with ten delegates per first fifty enrollment and five for each additional fifty. Paris township Sunday school convention featured music from the high school orchestra.
Brewer sues Clark Barlow executor of Margaret Barlow estate to recover 500 dollars. Lease covered 50 acres in Liberty township with a March 1 1911 start. Plaintiff demanded possession and offered half rent. executor and heir Lawrence Larlow refused. Damages sought 100 dollars per year for five years. John L. Loughrey attorney.
Former State Senator Daniel F. Mooney of St. Marys will deliver an address at the Marysville Board of Trade banquet tomorrow evening. A noted Auglaize county lawyer, he is well known in Marysville and Union county and is expected to give a splendid speech.
Lawrence Martin aged 72 of Marysville died Thursday from nephritis and related diseases after fourteen months of declining health. Born March 17 1889 in Marthe Ireland he came to America and Ohio then settled in Marysville fifty years ago. Survived by wife Anna Kenneday and children Mary Martin Harry Martin Margaret Joseph George Martin and others. Civil War veteran of Company D 134th OVI. Funeral Saturday at Church of Our Lady Lourdes with burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
J. J. Scott and Judge James Mc Campbell attended in Columbus Thursday evening to hear Prof Eugene McCampbell of Ohio State University discuss venom studies in snakes and other poisonous animals. The lecture closed a Sigma Xi fraternity series.
William Harris of Milford Center resigns from the Irwin public schools where he taught seventh and eighth grades. He will enter the Ohio State University at Columbus this fall. Harris is praised for a strong teaching record and is noted as a top guard who played two seasons with the Marysville Crescents.
The High School Alumni association reports progress on its annual reunion. Chairman Lou W. Hazen says an option on Graycourt or armory hall was secured for reception and banquet. Negotiations for a Columbus orchestra are underway. Invitations are being printed and ticket sales start this week with 50 cent dues per member to cover expenses.
Miss Margaret Hopple 72 resident of Marysville and native of Germany was declared sane in probate court and sent to Columbus State Hospital by Sheriff Price. She lives with sister Mrs. Lizzie Fensel, has restless behavior and various hallucinations, cries when spoken to, and claims she is starving with abdominal pain.
