A large turnout of farmers met at Herman Bauers place along the county line Tuesday to discuss profitable beet culture. A Chippewa Falls representative reviewed soil preparation and harvesting methods, stressing fall plowing with manure and clover, early subsoiling, and careful rolling to ensure a strong beet crop next season.
A circuit court special session at Wautoma granted a change of venue in the Connors vs Marshfield power plant purchase case from Judge Webb to Portage for December. The Marshfield News has shifted from alleged independence to backing the complainants, and will publish extracts from preliminary hearing testimony to reveal alleged weaknesses in the plaintiff's case.
The Marshfeld News notes an error in a quotation about Governor LaFollette speaking at the fair. It argues the second word should be shriek and criticizes the printer's license for shortening spellings in headlines.
Miss Amelia Thal Jacker and Clarence Ebbe of Madison were married at the bride's parents home with Rev. Mathes officiating in the presence of relatives. Marshfield prepares for the second annual fair by the Central Wisconsin State Fair association opening next Tuesday for four days. Gov La Follette may attend on the final day with his celebrated dragon. Horse racing purses are large and stock exhibits promise fine animals, while concerts and parades attract visitors from across the state. Local merchants expect strong business and farmers are urged to support the fair as a future boon to the community.
John Eckhof, former superintendent, visited Wittenberg for a talk as the new electric light and water plant being built there nears completion. The system will draw power from the Embarrass river two miles away, with a 125 horsepower force at low water. The village will see 18 arc lights and 1300 to 2090 small lights for business streets and the Indian school.
Prodigy in pullets reports Frank Fruehbrodt a farmer north of town with pullets laying at thirteen weeks, close to a record for precocious hens. All members of Co A are notified to appear for semiannual muster Monday, Sept 26, 1904. Hugh E. Pomeroy will inspect. blue uniform to be worn.
The year ending September 1 report by County Register B A Upham notes fewer sales but higher prices across Wood County. Saratoga leads acres sold with 5955, Remington second with 5287, total acreage 35357? and total acreage value for land and lots totals $1 0.7 millionish. Marshfield and Grand Rapids dominate lot sales with distinct average prices around $724 to $734 per lot.
